My AHA! Meal
by Eve R. Green
I finally found it, that dish that will bring me back, my Aha! meal.
Cancun Restaurant on 3A in Kingston is just down the street and is often a consideration when we’re hungry and short on time. We’ve tried it several times over the years but I never found that special dish that had me salivating in anticipation of our next visit.
We’ve tried the typical beef and chicken tacos, the burritos, and the sampler platters, all of which seemed to be reshaped versions of themselves; comprised of all the same ingredients. However, starving at the end of a long day, we decided to try it one more time and Olé! — I found it. My Aha! Meal. Fish Tacos! They have become a new food obsession of mine after lunching with a friend at Summer Shack in Hingham where she raved about theirs. Those were really good, but I think Cancun gives them a run for their money.
The fish in Summer Shack’s fish taco is deep-fried – give me anything fried and I’m happy – but now in my slightly overweight menopausal state it gives me pause. (Too much information? Sorry.) Cancun’s fish is grilled (not fried) and perfectly moist. At first glance, the amount of fish seemed a bit skimpy but after amending it with chopped fresh cabbage, onions, cilantro, lettuce, a sliver of tomato, and then saucing it with a drizzle of their cilantro cream concoction, it was all in perfect proportion.
Warm tortilla chips, homemade salsa, and a draft Dos Equis and all my stress slipped away.
Now we just have to find my companion’s perfect dish.
I’m happy to return as many times as it takes for him to find his Aha! meal.
