Pop Up Art Show and Free Fermentation Workshop

The Lexicon Of Sustainability: Pop Up Art Show Cultivates the Language of the Local Foods Movement At How On Earth.

by Gracie Mullen-Thompson and How on Earth

On Thursday, October 6th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, How on Earth will be hosting a photo collage project by artist Douglas Gayeton during an open house and educational workshop. The photo collage, known as The Lexicon of Sustainability, is a nation-wide event that has announced How on Earth in Mattapoisett, MA as one of 100 curators from around the country to host a Pop Up Art Show.

The project generously donated 50 large format photos for the show and is centered on the premise that people can’t be expected to live more sustainable lives if they don’t know the most basic terms and principles that define sustainability.  The Lexicon project spent the last three years immersed in and learning about sustainability from the foremost practitioners of food and farming nationwide. A second showing of these photos will take place at the Connecting for Change conference in New Bedford the weekend of October 21st-23rd and after the artwork will be donated to a local school or non-profit organization as a permanent display.

The event this Thursday at How on Earth will feature acoustic music by Neal McCarthy, local wine and beer at cost, free appetizers prepared by Chef Colin Bradley, and a Fermentation Workshop led by Bay Club Chef Jim Mercer.  It is free and open to the public. The Fermentation Workshop will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 pm and is limited to the first 30 RSVPs. The Workshop will introduce participants to the tradition and craft of lacto-fermentation and its health benefits.  Participants can expect to come away with the confidence to make their own Sauerkraut, Kim-chi, Kefir, Ginger Beer, Pickles, and more!

Those interested are asked to RSVP by calling How on Earth at 508-758-1341 or emailing info@howonearth.net.
